This well-established ecosystem is now at the forefront of the industry’s shift towards electric and autonomous vehicles.
Michigan semiconductor talent and technologies for automotive research (mstar), established by KLA, the University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, GM, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and imec, was created to drive the advancement of semiconductor technologies crucial to this transformation.
As the US chapter of star, mstar is dedicated to fostering talent, developing infrastructure, and growing the automotive semiconductor ecosystem in Michigan.
Mstar's objectives

Advance automotive semiconductor research: promote fundamental and next-generation research in automotive semiconductors. Foster the adoption of cutting-edge solutions such as advanced ADAS, autonomous driving, and electric vehicles.

Develop Michigan’s talent pipeline: collaborate with educational institutions to strengthen Michigan’s semiconductor workforce. Implement training and retraining programs to prepare both new and existing workers for roles in chip manufacturing and assembly.
